Catching Flounder in Saltwater Public Marina Huge Snapper Too

Fishing in South West Florida can be tough from the bank. Finding a secret spot is the key. So where should you fish? Try fishing a public saltwater marina; you might just catch some flounder, snapper, snook, jack crevalle, barracuda or spotted sea trout.

The morning prior to catching these fish I'd seen some snook, trout and a barracuda as I walked the seawall scouting out a place to fish. I went back in the evening with my rod in hand.

Catching bait (small pin fish) was really easy because there are some flats that are very close to the seawall. I threw the cast net about five times and loaded up on pin fish. I rigged up with 12 LB. test mono-filament line and tied on a #2 Mustad circle hook.

It took me about an hour to really get into the fish. Although when I first started fishing in this public South Florida marina I had a good hit when I was messing around with my Gopro camera gear. In the beginning of this video you can see where I got the bit but wasn't looking.


What a fun night of fishing. All in all, I caught three fish, two flounder and a mangrove snapper.


I went back to the same South West Florida marina in the morning and had two snook follow up my pinfish, hooked up with a big trout and had something break me off; I never saw what it was.

The best thing about finding fish like this is that there's no one else fishing there! Another good tidbit to note is there are a lot of people in public marinas. They love to converse with you as they pass by. This interaction can make a slow day of fishing extra enjoyable.
